Saadiyat Rotana is showing team efforts to implement CSR activities. Since 2018 and ongoing, as part of sustainability management system ISO 21401. We were the first hotel in the Middle East to be certified with ISO21401 system. In 2022 we had 7 CSR activities. In kind contribution value was $ 2052.

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi in partnership with The National Aquarium, released 250 rehabilitated turtles back into the Arabian Gulf on June 13, 2022 at Saadiyat Rotana. The release comes as part of continued work to preserve sea turtle populations in the Emirate.The turtles were successfully rehabilitated after being discovered and rescued last year with the help of the public, sea-goers, fishermen, and several other partners. A satellite tracking device was fixed on some turtles to track its path, monitor its movements, and identify its nesting sites and feeding areas.

By implementing this CSR activity “Turtles Release” we were able to complete our target relating to conservation activity “Life below water” which is under CSR for raising an awareness on marine life species to our guests and colleagues and Saadiyat residences guests. We had a target for 2022 to implement minimum 3 hotels educational eco-tourism and conservation programs (public seminar, workshop, roundtable...) to advance ongoing conservation efforts and continue to drive sustainability within community. “Turtle Release” program was under conservation of marine life turtles program KPIs.

"The “Turtle Release Event” has benefitted overall to sustainability management system ISO21401. The event benefitted as education purpose about conservation efforts from EAD and National Aquarium to the hotel guests, stakeholders and interested parties as they learned about hawksbill turtles, satellites and the process of rehabilitation which was done in National Aquarium and the process of the turtles’ release back to wild. Guests coming to Saadiyat have good eco-friendly perception about the Saadiyat Island itself as it is a natural native island in Abu-Dhabi with pristine beach and marine life. Around 40 kids were invited for this event, and this helped kids to learn about turtles and satellite track system and why it should be implemented as part of monitoring process and learning turtle migrations. This will raise impact to sustainability and knowledge for future generations."

We planned it 2 weeks before the event. We made calls first with EAD & National Aquarium to understand the requirements: how many turtles will be released, weather conditions, sea temperature, availability of waves, low & high tides of the sea & final process of release of turtles to the water, rollups stands with EAD & National Aquarium logo at the beach, Covid-19 requirements, arrangements for the registration reception & banners, wristbands for the guests, sustainable plastic-free setup, VIPs to be invited. 30 colleagues volunteers supported the EAD and National Aquarium teams for event.

"In a short-term, we plan such projects next year more often & we are always happy to host “Turtle Release”. In a long-term this should be a part of Sustainability KPIs & ensure that such events are planned & checking the hotel business & availability at the time of the event so to ensure that beach is not very crowded. We don’t see any implications of “Turtle Release” as this project is very beneficial for all colleagues, guests, stakeholders. 110 colleagues participated in the event & 440 volunteering hours. We provided as in-kind contribution the coffee break & meeting room in value of $150"

We joined the ENWWF Leaders of Change program and offered this opportunity initially to a small group of employees to tackle some of the environmental issues through the different virtual training courses, workshops, debates, and talks which they will be given access to throughout the year and where various professionals from different backgrounds come together. We want those employees to volunteer at the different field activities and initiate self-led activities that will allow them to gain the knowledge and maximize impact by transferring this knowledge to the rest of the team.

"Sustainable Minds" - this is how we describe employees at Phoenix Contact who make a valuable contribution to sustainability. The Leaders of Change program was a voluntary project which we have introduced to the team and is based on individual commitment and effort. "As part of our CSR initiatives, kiklos architects has partnered in two main projects throughout 2022. In partnership with “Surge for Water”, a US-based NGO providing assistance to underprivileged communities in Uganda, Haiti, Mozambique and Sri Lanka, kiklos architects has participated as “Hygiene Promoter”, supporting basic training on water cycle and usage within Ugandan communities. In partnership with Khansaheb Industries, based in the UAE, kiklos architects has developed and proposed a revamped concept for the common area within one of the group’s Labour Accommodation in Jebel Ali."

"As for the “Surge for Water” partnership, we intended to support a recognized NGO that carries established development work in within developing countries, so that we can support not only our local community but also reach other communities in need elsewhere. With regards to the Khansaheb Labor accommodation project, our goal was to be able to provide our expertise and industry knowledge to promote positive change and impact on the quality of life of the hard-working labor workers of one of our business partners and within our local community, in this case, we chose Khansaheb Industries."

"Within the “Surge for Water” partnership, a total of 119 people have been impacted within the month of August/22 alone (last impact report received from “Surge”), by receiving training on the Water cycle, its importance and optimized usage within rural communities in Uganda. Within the Labor accommodation project, approximately 2.000 labor workers are bound to be benefitted by the revamped common areas, which will provide them with enhanced leisure, social, sitting and co-existing area, within a space of increased greenery and enhanced facilities."

Whilst the “Surge for Water” partnership had all of the beneficial and impactful work carried out by Surge’s team on the ground in Uganda, the entire kiklos team participated and contributed on the survey and development of the concept created from Khansaheb Industries’ Labor Accommodation revamp in Jebel Ali, especially our Principal Architect, Grammatiki Zamani, and our Senior Architect, Ioanna Makri.

"We intend to continue our partnership with ‘Surge’ in order to continue impacting communities in Uganda and elsewhere, increasing our participation and being able to donate entire water wells to communities in need. We also have in the pipeline a plan to link a donation to Surge for each new project awarded to kiklos architects. Likewise, we will continue on the lookout for opportunities to participate and contribute within our community and industry by applying our design expertise to projects that will have a social impact within those individuals and communities that need the most."
