Impacts & results: Extent to which details are provided on how the project has benefitted the sustainability realm as well as the organisation, team & the stakeholders

Question

Provide details on how your project has benefitted the sustainability realm as well as your organisation, your team & your stakeholders if relevant.

Answer RedSea

As the world’s population continues to grow, demand for food is rapidly increasing. Current estimates suggest our planet will need to grow 50% more food by 2050. Globally, agriculture accounts for 70% of the drain on freshwater resources – increasing to 85%-90% in hot environments. Solving this problem in a sustainable way is critical and a core pillar of RedSea’s strategy. Recent global events like the pandemic, the Suez Canal supply chain disruption, and spiralling costs of global goods transport have further highlighted the urgent need for local, sustainable food production. Our AgTech platform deployed at our UAE project site enable agriculture in hot climates. These technologies can have significant sustainability impacts when deployed on a global scale. Our turning around of marginal land will grow in importance as sustainable food becomes an even higher priority globally.

Question

How does this project fit within your overall sustainability goals and ambitions?

Answer RedSea

Our technology improves food security, reduces carbon use in the sector and overall freshwater consumption. We are breaking the food-water-energy nexus by delivering technologies for hot climate agriculture aligned with our ESG goal: fully renewable energy sources at CEA sites by 2027.

Our technologies ultimately enable growing foods in places once thought as the antithesis of agriculture. There are many regions globally with hot desert-like environments. By establishing our project in the UAE, we can demonstrate to the rest of the world the potential for applying RedSea’s sustainable technologies and processes in countries such as Mexico, United States, Egypt, and Singapore. We can achieve savings of 300 L of freshwater per kg of produce, enabling greater production localized to sales destinations - hence improving food security and reducing food miles.

Sustainable practices are no longer innovation, they are the expected standard. We are contributing to a sustainable future with our local manufacturing and our practices. We are supporting an ever-growing eco-aware B2C market and developing cost effective eco products to drive change within the B2B sector. Year to date we have used 357,570 litres of water to make product, a saving of 5,721,120 litres of fresh water that would have been used to make conventional products. Not only do we use less water but we also do not pollute the water. Our team gets to work in a non-toxic environment, both from the cleaning side and production side as opposed to a traditional factory using chemicals such as formaldehyde, phosphates, dyes, chlorine bleach, SLS, artificial fragrances etc. 20% Of our freshwater resources are contaminated by laundry detergent contamination alone. We benefit all.

Domestic MZ model, a lightweight commercial treatment system that can treat all wastewater in one tank and reduce costs through simple installation procedure, efficient treatment process and energy-saving electrical componentsIn order to have an integrated, stable and reliable system, it is necessary to focus on the quality of the active components installed within the system to ensure that they work harmoniously with each other. In addition, it is necessary to have accurate knowledge of the nature and type of pollutants likely to be present in the wastewater in order to know the most appropriate way to treat and dispose of them without causing any pressure on the performance of the treatment system. Therefore, all Astrolabe systems are equipped with the finest types of media and bacteria incubators, which may reach up to 3150 2/m3 in some models. Astrolabe systems designed in a way that makes them the best among the rest of the other systems regarding the speed of reaching the stage of functional stability, which will not exceed 15 days in the case of Astrolabe systems, while it may reach 45 days in the rest of the systems.

we are only4 employees in this compony, we just completed a month and a half from the usage of the astrolabe treating water system although we started seeing good and satisfyingly results on the project and as it was promised and garneted. So our next plan is for our garden to be an intermediary between companies and people to tell them more about this project and give them the chance to see the results in our garden in orderoth to be convinced with it.

To assure the sustainability needed, to save the earth, to provide easier and better solutions for all the problems that our environment faces. few homes and companies uses the same system, but when we choose to provide it we had in my that this project needs to be everywhere and our job is to aware more people about it and make sure that water systems will change to become for eco-friendly and more sustainable.
