Feeding the world sustainably is our primary aim. With our technology, it is possible to grow food in hot desert climates, while reducing the carbon, energy, and water footprint of agriculture. We use innovation to have a positive impact on the environment, communities, and economies we operate in.
RedSea’s multi-technology 10,000m2 demonstration greenhouse in Al Ain will be used to showcase and develop cutting edge sustainable agriculture technologies in Abu Dhabi to drive adoption in the UAE. The facility is designed to mimic the most common greenhouse style in the GCC but is set up to demonstrate (A) RedSea Technology on one side and (B) existing growing methods on the other side. This project is significant for RedSea as it is our first in the UAE and allows for scaling our technology for 1000 local farmers as well as globally for application in other regions with hot climates.
"The positive impact on the local community is economic, environmental, and social. Our baseline 5-year project plan includes these targets: *200,000m3 freshwater saved *1000 tonnes sustainable fresh produce sold to local market *$2 million of import substitution *15 local jobs created (4 high skilled) *~$50 million sales from technology showcased on site by 2026 Further positive impacts can be generated by adding future manufacturing facility to produce technologies in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, RedSea benefits from new IP and patents generated from ongoing technology development filed in AD."
As the world’s population continues to grow, demand for food is rapidly increasing. Current estimates suggest our planet will need to grow 50% more food by 2050. Globally, agriculture accounts for 70% of the drain on freshwater resources – increasing to 85%-90% in hot environments. Solving this problem in a sustainable way is critical and a core pillar of RedSea’s strategy. Recent global events like the pandemic, the Suez Canal supply chain disruption, and spiralling costs of global goods transport have further highlighted the urgent need for local, sustainable food production. Our AgTech platform deployed at our UAE project site enable agriculture in hot climates. These technologies can have significant sustainability impacts when deployed on a global scale. Our turning around of marginal land will grow in importance as sustainable food becomes an even higher priority globally.
Our technology improves food security, reduces carbon use in the sector and overall freshwater consumption. We are breaking the food-water-energy nexus by delivering technologies for hot climate agriculture aligned with our ESG goal: fully renewable energy sources at CEA sites by 2027.

The project was a collaboration between our deployment, plant science, and technology teams with 11 primary employees involved (17% of our company) and many more providing input. Each team implemented innovations to drive the project. First, our deployment team utilized modern methods of construction enabling a rapid build without the need for concrete. Our tech team deployed novel active & passive cooling and agrivoltaic systems. Our plant science team contributed a unique saltwater irrigated fodder trial. Also, our finance team raised the funding for an HSBC green loan for the project.
Our technologies ultimately enable growing foods in places once thought as the antithesis of agriculture. There are many regions globally with hot desert-like environments. By establishing our project in the UAE, we can demonstrate to the rest of the world the potential for applying RedSea’s sustainable technologies and processes in countries such as Mexico, United States, Egypt, and Singapore. We can achieve savings of 300 L of freshwater per kg of produce, enabling greater production localized to sales destinations - hence improving food security and reducing food miles.

Apply state of the art chemical program to withstand more stressful water condition in the operation reducing the demand of fresh DEWA water and ability to use recycled wastewater as feed water for district cooling leading to water circular economy. We had the opportunity to work on minimizing both energy and water footprints using treated water for application in the district cooling plant instead of the traditional application using fresh water. Additional benefits included such as reduction in energy & CO2 emission involving 6 -10 members of the Metito Chemical team.
"Aim: Reducing freshwater consumption and recycle the domestic sewage - Recycled wastewater for district cooling plants - Period: January to August 2022 - 100,000 to 150,000 m3. Additional Benefits: Reduction of the carbon footprint more than 4.0 tons of CO2/day (based on 2.5 Kg CO2 per m3 of Desalinated water. The CO2 emission 7.5 kg CO2 per m3 in certain cases depending on the desalination technology used to produce the water) as opposed to using desalinated seawater for the same application. Saving on the cost of land that would have been required to build a standalone plant.
"1. Turning waste to wealth by recycling wastewater and reusing it efficiently as a readily available water resource rather than disposing of it and desalinating, precious and costly, fresh water 2. The cost of securing makeup water to feed the cooling towers is reduced to almost one fourth (1/4) as compared to desalinating fresh water for the same application 3. Save the environment from polluted water 4. Reduce the carbon footprint by using treated sewage rather than using seawater with desalination plant which is very high in power consumption"

we are only4 employees in this compony, we just completed a month and a half from the usage of the astrolabe treating water system although we started seeing good and satisfyingly results on the project and as it was promised and garneted. So our next plan is for our garden to be an intermediary between companies and people to tell them more about this project and give them the chance to see the results in our garden in orderoth to be convinced with it.
other than what was said above, we believe that it is very important to provide this kind of projects everywhere. To assure the sustainability needed, to save the earth, to provide easier and better solutions for all the problems that our environment faces. few homes and companies uses the same system, but when we choose to provide it we had in my that this project needs to be everywhere and our job is to aware more people about it and make sure that water systems will change to become for eco-friendly and more sustainable.
