Pylon is an impact-driven infrastructure management startup that is working on killing inefficiencies in the energy and water sectors in emerging markets. Pylon’s clean tech solutions slash losses, reduce carbon footprints and are accessible to cash-strapped utilities in underprivileged markets.

Pylon is working on training the sustainable development department members on the concepts of ESG, and how to successfully draft a company wide ESG strategy for all the other departments, taking into consideration their respective functions. Consequently, organizing an ESG bootcamp/series of trainings for alI employees to familiarize them with the potentially significant impact ESG poses on their operations, making it easier for them to accomplish their business objectives and respond to crisis scenarios with key stakeholder groups, in addition to identifying immediate and long-term risks.

The objective of these series of trainings/bootcamp is to familiarize all departments with the basic concepts of ESG, taking into account the actual importance of ESG/ESMS policies and how it contributes to the development and growth of the company. Furthemore, the bootcamp will allow all employees to have a well-rounded understanding of how they can incorporate ESG into their day to day operations.

The ESG bootcamp initiative is highly endorsed by top level management, dedicating a portion of the company’s resources (SD department) to manage the initiative; ranging from a series of trainings (ToT) on the concepts of ESG and how to build a solid ESMS, to devising an entire syllabus for the said company-wide bootcamp, and conducting relevant trainings for each department.

The aforementioned bootcamp is the first of many sessions that will be provided to the employees on the concepts of ESG and how to integrate them into their daily functions, considering that Pylon is in a growing phase and ESG/ESMS awareness & application is part of our long-term goals. Consequently, Pylon will conduct annual training sessions (company-wide) to cater to the constantly evolving policies and ensure that all employees are in line with the latest updates in that regard.

Staff are at the core of our strategy. Making sure they get educated on the sustainable behaviour but at the same time giving them opportunity for personal development including basic English, different skills exposure in the workshop.

Our managers implemented the training with practical examples and also shared how much plastic usage is affecting the planet and why we choose to bring our packing material back to reuse them.
We want to look at more and more sustainable but cost effective material to restore and Upcycle the furniture. Along with more sustainable way to product electric i.e. Solar, route optimisations to save fuel and cut down on our impact as well as looking at a small %age from our revenue goes towards offset initiatives.
Infinity is the only Egyptian Renewable Energy company, offering more than one renewable energy solution. Infinity's main objective is to provide a clean and an accessible environment to its community and to the world. Accordingly, the path taken to achieve this goal is through sustainability(ESGs).
Start the first Women in Renewable Energy Committee in Egypt, to raise awareness about the gender discrimination females face in this field. This committee was also developed in order to set a clear example for female future engineers that they can follow. The committee gathered female employees from many different departments in the company, to brain storm different ideas to achieve the required goal which is to empower women in the energy engineering field.
Female employees were gathered from different departments in the company to start the first Women in Renewable Energy Committee in Egypt. A weekly meeting has been set to brainstorm and take decisions towards the main goal of the committee which is to raise awareness about women in the field as well as encourage more women to choose engineering as their career path. It was decided that raising awareness through social media, workshops and school sessions is the first step to be taken.

The Women in Renewable Energy Committee tackled the social pillars of sustainability not only by benefiting the external community but also it helped raise awareness about females in renewable energy to our employees. It also resulted in a strong bond between women in our company.
Starting a women in renewable energy committee targeted the social pillar since it encourages women to be engineers and achieve a better understanding of the field and to set an example to future female engineers. It also caused the female employees to be more engaged and developed their communication skills with one another and caused them to express creative ideas for a cause they are interested about. For example, a video was filmed by our female engineers (4 females) in our 1 MW site, in which they shared their experience and the obstacles they faced when choosing their career and how they overcome them. This video was shared with every department in the company to help raise awareness within the employees and is planned to be shared through social media as well on our online platforms.

A weekly meeting is conducted to brainstorm different ideas from various female employees (20 women). The team consists of female employees from different departments such as marketing, solar design, sustainability, HR, O&M and finance. After a few meetings they decided to start by raising awareness through social media, workshops and school sessions to target the young females to choose their career path regardless of gender. Every female's experience will be shared so that they can as a lesson and an encouragement to the young female engineers who are still uncertain about their path.
It is planned to firstly target young Egyptian females to help them overcome the gender discrimination in our society. This is going to be achieved by reaching schools, colleges, and universities in every city in Egypt, and on the long term it is planned to reach educational institutions and events around the middle east to empower more future female engineers to choose their path without any fear due to gender discrimination.

Creating sustainability awareness has been our primary focus since the Group introduced the Sustainability strategy at the beginning of 2022. We strongly believe that awareness of the terminology is the basis for making every initiative and action successful.
Awareness campaign on Sustainability - Ramachandran Nair and his daughter created a lush forest and grasslands mini-landscape that showcased GAC's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and efforts for a cleaner, greener environment. It was an opportunity to explain GAC's Roadmap to Sustainability and the 8 SDGs we are committed to as we strive to influence and create the most positive impact. This was shared on The Group’s Intranet The Genie on 30/5/22 (Family time project boosts sustainability message (sharepoint.com). A similar ‘landscape’ has been set up near the Reception area of GAC Oman.
When it comes to awareness initiatives, the outcome was fantastic. It helps staff better understand the sustainability terminology and to talk about the Group’s focus on Sustainability strategy. Undoubtedly, the landscape displayed in the Reception area boosts GAC Oman’s CSR strategy and initiatives to reach our customers/clients/visitors and other interested parties.

This will help the visitors/customers/service providers better understand how GAC Oman, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, focuses on educating its employees on the Group policy and strategy, which also sends a message to society.

The key to implementing such initiatives is to improve staff awareness of sustainability and how each individual, on a personal level, can contribute to fulfilling the measures implemented and being implemented. The family initiative by Ramachandran Nair helps the young generation to be aware of the importance of preserving nature and how their little thinking can contribute to making it rewarding to create a sustainable future.
