Balexco plans to source around 30% of its total electricity needs from renewables and simultaneously reduce by 10% its energy consumption per MT of production by undertaking an energy audit. This will help in reducing the carbon footprint and contribute to the nation’s target to reduce emissions by 30% through decarbonisation by 2035. This will help Balexco in not only reducing cost but also make it more energy efficient in the future. Lastly we would like to set an example for other SME’s to follow so that there is a ripple effect.
Impacts & results: Extent to which details are provided on how the project has benefitted the sustainability realm as well as the organisation, team & the stakeholders
Provide details on how your project has benefitted the sustainability realm as well as your organisation, your team & your stakeholders if relevant.
As per Investopedia, “Sustainability” has three main pillars: economic, environmental, and social. These three pillars are informally referred to as People, Planet, and Profits. Reducing the carbon footprint by reducing the energy being generated from fossil fuels, will help in a cleaner & healthier environment for the community. This project over thirty years will generate a significant carbon footprint reduction by 53,190 MT of carbon dioxide. Further over the project life cycle of 30 years there will be a savings of USD 3.3M & thereby higher profits for the stakeholder. The higher profits would lead to improved compensation for the staff. Thus the project will benefit all the three pillars of People, Planet, and Profits. Balexco will adapt and improve its production process to be more energy efficient and this will help it stay abreast in today’s dynamic competitive environment.

The Solar Project is a 30 year project and will take 10 months’ implement. Even though the signing of the PPA is getting delayed due to the delay in Joint venture formation, the structural analysis and design stage will start from LOI signing so as not to delay the project. The Energy audit will be the early deliverable and based on their recommendations, the company shall put a framework to implement the suggested recommendations in avoiding wastage and improving energy efficiency. The work has already started on some of the expected short term benefits like changing of halogen lamps to LED.
With roots going back to 1962, Tanmiah aims to be a leading integrated producer and supplier for poultry and other meat products in the MENA region. ESG is a critical pillar of our operating strategy and important for all our stakeholders. We aim to become a global, halal and sustainable brand.
Gasification of poultry manure to create biochar. The process will create syngas which will be used to create steam which will then power a turbine to generate clean energy. The project targets our sustainability initiatives of reducing waste sent to landfill, reducing waste sent to landfill and reducing our carbon footprint. This project is primarily being led by the sustainability team with technical support from PMO (Project Management Office) and PED (Project Engineering and Design).
"Reduce waste sent to landfill which is in line with Saudi Vision 2030 to reduce waste sent to landfill by 90% by 2030 Develop clean sources of energy which is also in line with the Kingdoms vision to achieve net zero by 2060 Eliminate waste disposal costs, reduce energy related costs and develop alternate revenue streams"
"Divert waste from landfill up to 110,000 tons of manure per year by 2025 (at full expnasion) Generate up to 47,000 MWh per annum of clean, renewable energy Reduce GHG emissions up to 76,000 tons per annum by reducing energy consumption from non renewable sources"

Our objective is to operate in a sustainable manner. To achieve this, we have initiated several projects - solar power, water recycling, digitalization, and more. This has helped us not only cut down on expenses on non-renewable energy, paper use, etc. but has helped the company's environmental credentials. The ESG projects are spearheaded by the company's Corporate Purchase department the leadership of the company CEO - Mr. Alok Gupta in coordination with the finance department, and all the relevant operational heads.
Our target is to be a net zero power-consuming entity by 2025. We have implemented solar power projects which cover 20% of our power requirements to date. This was achieved in September 2022. We have complemented this initiative by installing LED lights and replacing older AC units with more energy-efficient units to control our power consumption and eventually achieve our target of 100% of the power consumed through renewable sources sooner.
"Total Solar Power Generating Capacity Installed: 1.14 MW Total Solar Power Units Generated per Year: 1.74 Million kWh Total Carbon dioxide Reduction: 1,045 Tons per Year Total Amount of Coal Burning Avoided: 619 Tons Total No. of Oil Barrel Consumption Avoided: 3,488 Barrels Total No. of Equivalent Tree Seedlings Grown over 10 Years: 20,928 seedlings"
The solar power project is one of the most critical for our company's overall sustainabolity goals and ambitions. Once we achieve 100% power consumption through solar, it will lead to annual savings of USD 680,000

The management was presented with a cost benefit analysis of the solar project. Not withstanding the significant capital expenditure, the management was convinced of both the financial and non-financial benefits that the project presented. The project implementation was done by a third party vendor and this was coordinated by lean team for 10 members from our organization.
With the comissioning of 2 solar power projects we are generating 1.74 Million kWh annually through renewable sources which constitutes 20% of our annual requirements (8.8 Million kWh).

We have decided to enter into a 20-year solar power purchase agreement to cover our electricity consumption in our operations of our 2 cement mills, bag packing and bulk loading units. We have also installed wind turbines on a trial basis.
"1.This is in line with the Government of Bahrain Vision on sustainable development goals for 2030. 2. As a bulk consumer of electricity affordable & Clean Energy which is resilient to weather related impacts of climate change. 3. cost savings by using the green energy. 4. Utilization of unused spaces available at our premises. 5. An energy system based on distributed, and de centralised generation is more flexible than depending on a single source."
This power purchase agreement of 20 years is estimated to generate 3GWh of clean energy in 1 year and to reduce 40,658 Metric Tonnes of CO2 equivalent which is equivalent to 8,760 cars taken off the road or 672,280 trees saved. With a 1760 KWp estimated system capacity, we are saving 38% of costs compared to EWA Tariff.
it will indeed, boost, incorporate and enrich our overall environmental improvements and related savings strategies.

Emirates Glass was established to become the leading provider of energy efficient architectural glass in the Middle East. Since its inception the company has been an integral part of Dubai’s growth and evolution, having supplied glazing and expertise for many of the iconic buildings across the city.
Emirates Glass LLC and LumiGlass Industries installed photovoltaic (PV) rooftop systems on its facilities in the UAE, promoting the use of solar energy.
"The implementation of solar panels on the two glass manufacturing facilities will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1,200 tonnes annually, equivalent to planting approximately 30,000 trees. These solar panels are expected to generate around 2,800 megawatt-hours (MWh) of green energy per year from these two locations."
"Constructed with approximately 3,000 PV panels, the 1.20 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop system is expected to produce over 1,900 (MWh) annually. The electricity generated by the solar roof top will cover around 19% of Emirates Glass facilities energy needs. Another solar PV rooftop was finalized with TotalEnergies for Lumiglass Industries. The 0.55 MWp solar rooftop system is made up of more than 1,400 PV panels. The solar system is expected to produce over 800 MWh per year and will cover about 18% of the facility’s energy needs."
These projects and partnerships are part of Emirates Glass' commitment to adopting modern technology and innovative concepts as part of the Company’s efforts to achieve business excellence and sustainable growth.
